Conservatively less than one year. Some of our customers are reporting a 6-8 months ROI.
Increased throughput while producing better part quality. System allows you to meet tight specifications including producing a less than half fringe form PV for large Silicon optics. Customers also benefit from a 3-5X tool life improvement.
If you are facing any or all of these challenges - Rapid tool wear - Unstable cutting process - Poor form characteristics - Poor surface finish or aesthetics (pitting, spoking etc) - Unable to machine challenging parts - Requiring high skill operators for current jobs - High machine inefficiency rate
We strongly believe in establishing a stable process for our customers. This not only includes the addition of laser assisted machining but also best practices in diamond turning, and metrology recommendations.
We offer a number of minimal financial risk options that enable our customers to evaluate all aspects of the technology. With our in house diamond turning capability and supported metrology, we will be happy to evaluate your specific parts.
The Micro-LAM technology has demonstrated great success in turning Silicon, Zinc Sulfide, Zinc Selenide, Calcium Fluoride, Tungsten Carbide, Magnesium Oxide, & Germanium.
The team at Micro-LAM is currently working on Aluminum, Electroless Nickel, Stainless Steel, Silicon Carbide, Barium Fluoride, Sapphire & Glass.
No. The OptimusT+1 retrofits onto your existing diamond turning machine. In fact it increases the capacity of your existing machine by 2-3X.
It takes less than 3 hours to retrofit the OptimusT+1 on your diamond turning machine.
Machine operators are typically very comfortable running the OptimusT+1 after about 3 hours of training. The laser controls are integrated to your machine controls, and is enabled through an M-Code.
We understand that your needs are urgent and we do our best to stock major components. The typical lead time is between 3-6 weeks.
The IR laser is a Class IV laser that will never be operated with the machine doors open. The Micro-LAM safety package includes laser barriers and necessary interlocks to ensure safe operation. With the installed laser barriers the Class IV laser becomes a Class I laser outside the machine.
The laser is focused precisely at the tool-workpiece interface ensuring a very controlled and localized delivery of heat. The heat and pressure work in parallel to soften the workpiece, making it more machinable.
Yes. Beam size is chosen based on the calculated tool sweep. The beam size can be adjusted with a simple turn of a knob.
Generally it takes 5-7 minutes to align the beam.
No. Although the current OptimusT+1 platform is aimed for diamond turning applications, the team is working on extending platforms to other processes such as drilling, milling, scribing, dicing, etc.
No. The proprietary Micro-LAM tools are designed specifically to accommodate the IR beam path through the diamond. However the OptimusT+1 accommodates conventional diamond tools that you may use for roughing out parts.
No, the relap cost and time are identical to conventional diamond tools.
No, we will accommodate any tool geometry that is specified by the customer. We have worked with tool radii ranging from 0.005mm to 10mm, and rake angles from 0 to -45 degrees.
Quoting our existing customers, "very efficient". The system is equipped with a number of remote monitoring capabilities that enable remote troubleshooting. This enables our engineers to get to the problem immediately and often times find a solution within hours. We will provide on-site support within days to minimize your production downtime.
